Transformers graphic novels, revisited

Transformers: The Animated Series Volume 2With the new animated series scheduled to premiere this month, along with the motion picture DVD finding it’s way under many a Christmas tree, I figured it a good time to update the GNA’s Transformers Graphic Novels guide.

I’ve accounted for a number of new books both released and scheduled, along with other odds and ends.

For a complete breakdown of updates and additions, read on. Or if you missed it the first time, give the entire guide a go.

Updates

With the help of turborip and the Comics Collected Library discussion forum, I’ve identified a number of Titan Book’s Transformers (Marvel) hardcovers as Diamond Previews direct market catalog exclusives. This leaves one hardcover - Transformers: End Of The Road - either unidentified or non-existent. IDW has announced a B&W Marvel Transformers collection, entitled - imaginatively enough - Classic Transformers Volume 1, scheduled for January 2008. Look for the Marvel/IDW publisher crossover, The New Avengers/The Transformers collection in February. A correction has been made to the guide’s entry for Transformers: Generations - the collected edition reprints issues 1-6, not 1-12. My bad. Check out Transformers Graphic Novels, Part 1 for the full skinny.

IDW has announced a couple of Marvel UK Transformers collections, reprinting popular storylines from across the pond. Look for a Target: 2006 collection in January, and a Dinobots themed collection in May. Transformers Graphic Novels, Part 2 has the complete story.

Dreamwave’s Transformers Generation 1 (Volume 1) was collected in a Dynamic Forces exclusive hardcover. Transformers Graphic Novels, Part 4.

Devil’s Due’s G.I. Joe Vs. The Transformers was also collected in a Dynamic Forces exclusive hardcover. And look for an omnibus edition in December 2007, collecting all four of DD’s G.I. Joe Vs. The Transformers mini-series. Check out Transformers Graphic Novels, Part 6 for the details.

IDW continues their support of the Beast Wars storyline with Transformers: Beast Wars: the Ascending, scheduled for February 2008. Look for a second Transformers: Spotlight in February as well. The contents of The Transformers: Premiere Edition Volume 1 has been narrowed down, and two cine-manga style episode adaption graphic novels - based on the Transformers: Animated cartoon series - are set for January 2008. Yeah, lots of new stuff in Transformers Graphic Novels, Part 7.

Thanks to the fantastic TFArchive.com, the contents of IDW’s “Best Of” books have been firmly established, which involves some changes to the guide’s previous content descriptions. The Art of IDW’s Transformers, essentially a cover gallery book (along with sketches, etc), is available in both Signed & Numbered, and Sketch, editions. Transformers Graphic Novels, Part 8 tells more.

More preview links have been added, and preview links have also been incorporated throughout the guide. Some books have been shuffled to other guide installments, to account for publisher and availability.
