Ultimate Evil
Why a lack of updates these past couple of weeks? Kevin Murphy said it best:
Being gut-stabbed with a dirty spoon in a prison cafeteria is less painful.
Read on for the gory details and the latest site updates.I recognized it early on, having been thru the horror before.
The pain began on a Sunday evening. It subsided rather quickly, and I thought - perhaps - I’d get lucky.
Monday, the Ultimate Evil began moving again.
Kidney stones are painful. Damn painful. You’re dealing with what is essentially a miniaturized version of baby Kal-El’s spaceship (re: SuperMan The Movie), moving it’s way down a system designed for liquid transport only. Trust me - your urinary tract is NOT designed to move crystalized rock.
Having been thru the ordeal a couple of years earlier, I was somewhat prepared this time around. A reserve of pain-killers (the remainder of a perscription from the first round) took the edge off - meaning, I would roll around gasping for air instead of screaming continuously.
The reserve lasted two and a half days. By then, a slight fever had set in. Off to the hospital.
With an infection having taken hold, and the stone being a bit larger than the hospital was comfortable with, I’m given a bed with some antibiotic and a morphine drip.
Sunday morning, after what consisted of six days of near constant pain, the Ultimate Evil exited the building.
Thankfully, the doctor tells me this appears to be the last of ‘em - that is, unless my body decides to make more. I’m making some changes to my diet - we’ll see if that does the trick.
I’ve been home for a week now, having spent the time catching up on work and trying my best not to fall out of my chair while at the computer. (Why so dizzy? The refresh rate, perhaps?)
Which explains why I haven’t posted or updated the GNA lately. I’ve been a little busy recovering from a severe bout of agony. ![]()
Did want to point out some updates I had made shortly before my episode:
1. Performed a Title Series and Universes audit, ultimately adding another 10 or so entries to each category. Some Book Series cleanup as well.
2. TokyoPop calls it Cine-Manga. Viz has it’s Ani-Manga and Film Comics. Dark Horse, their Anime Manga. Many different labels from different publishers, but all refer to graphic novels consisting of “artwork” pulled from animation or live action, with selected frames laid out sequentially.
Here at the GNA, I’ve standardized these books under the label of “Frame Art” and flagged them accordingly. So when searching the archive, you can now exclude these books from your results. Or if you’d like, you can browse the archive’s index of frame art graphic novels, should this type of book appeal.
More updates to come!
