Solicitation Updates: A couple of page bumps

August 11th, 2008

Nothing but a couple of page bumps to report this week.  Marvel’s Cable Volume 1: Messiah War (hardcover) will be running 128 pages instead of the solicited 120, and Marvel Illustrated: Moby Dick (hardcover) will be increased from 144 to 152 pages.

In the mix: InStockTrades

August 11th, 2008

I’m glad to announce a new online speciality shop added to the GNA’s comparison shopper mix - InStockTrades!

I’ve been trying to add these guys to the shopper for a while now, as I’ve always been incredibly impressed with their customer service.  So writing this announcement has been something I’ve been looking forward to for a long, long time.  Great service, great pricing, great shipment packaging, and free shipping for orders over fifty bucks.

If you haven’t already, give InStockTrades a try.

Solicitation updates: Marvel’s indecisions and Gemstone’s olive branch

August 10th, 2008

Some title changes from Marvel this week:

Ultimate X-Men Volume 19: Banshee (softcover) is now Ultimate X-Men Volume 19: Absolute Power, Wolverine: Origins Volume 5: Deep End (Premiere hardcover) has become Wolverine: Origins Volume 5: Deadpool, and Ultimate Spider-Man Volume 20 (softcover) has sprouted a subtitle to become Ultimate Spider-Man Volume 20: And His Amazing Friends.

Some Marvel page count adjustments as well. The Young Inhumans (softcover) will be dropping from the solicited 288 pages to 272, while the newly renamed Wolverine: Origins Volume 5: Deadpool (Premiere hardcover) will see a page increase of 48 pages, settling at a total count of 168. The extra material won’t be free, however, with a price hike of $19.99 to $24.99 planned.

Notice something odd with your latest EC Archives Weird Science collection?

In case you missed it, the cover of Weird Science #16 was inadvertently displayed as the cover of Weird Science #18 in Gemstone Publishing’s EC Archives Weird Science Volume 3 (hardcover) collected edition.

To make amends, Gemstone will be issuing a replacement page (bagged and boarded and scheduled to be available this month (Diamond Code MAY088318)). If you own EC Archives Weird Science Volume 3, check with your retailer for the replacement.

(Nice gesture, but does this type of thing work well with online retailers? Often not, imo.)

A replacement book would have been prime, but apparently such is not the case. I would hope future printings correct the error.

No word on any replacement/correction for DC’s flubbed Showcase Presents The Haunted Tank Volume 2.  I’ll keep ya posted.

Graphic novel shipping updates (aka What’s delayed this time?)

August 5th, 2008

No major delay announcements this week, with the worst offender being DC/CMX’s The King of Cards Volume 5, having slipped from mid-August to early September. Somewhat of a trade off, as Teru Teru X Shonen Volume 3 has been moved up from September 10th to September 3rd.

80% off graphic novels at Things From Another World

August 5th, 2008

Things From Another World is running a fantastic sale this week - 80% off select merchandise, including a selection of over 350 graphic novels. (Many books are in “nick & dent” condition, but for over three quarters off, hell, I’ll deal with it.)

Toss in free shipping for orders over $30 (use coupon code “UNLEASHED”), and it’s fair to say TFAW is showing the love.

Thanks for supporting GNA’s sponsors!

Blog ch-ch-ch-changes.

August 5th, 2008

Some would say it had to happen eventually. The GNA’s blog has moved to the WordPress platform.

It wasn’t an easy choice. And it wasn’t entirely an easy transfer. But it’s finished, and with WP’s handy browser integrated plugins and a more stable backend dbase, should make for easier blogging ahead.

Expect a nice theme or some major integration to be applied in the future - this default skin is ugh.

Every graphic novel deserves a title.

July 21st, 2008

Between life in general and the Dark Knight movie (wow), I spent some quality time adding Ebay “Buy It Now” and Half.com listings to the comparison shopper routine. Yet another means of tracking down those hard to find, out of print books.

Also uploaded the latest Community Editor tool - the Edition Title editor. Log in to your MyGNA account, click “Edit Edition Title” in your MyGNA sidebar, and voila, Internet magic will allow you to update an edition’s title and save it to the GNA’s graphic novel database. This garners points and points can garner prizes. If you haven’t already checked into it, give this a read.

More to come.
